Clinical pathology covers a wide range of laboratory functions and is concerned with the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Clinical pathologists are doctors with special training who often direct all of the special divisions of the laboratory, which may include the blood bank, clinical chemistry and biology, toxicology, hematology, immunology and serology, and microbiology. 

Clinical pathology also involves maintenance of information systems, research, and quality control.
Clinical Pathology is a specialization in the field of medical science, which is concerned with the diagnosis of disease with the help of clinical tests on bodily fluids like blood, urine, excretion etc. One who wants to specialize in clinical pathology can pursue a post graduate diploma in Clinical Pathology. Post Graduate diploma (Clinical Pathology) is a one-year course, during which one learns different techniques of clinical diagnosis. 

There are a number of colleges in India, which offer post graduate diploma in Clinical Pathology. The candidates with MBBS degree from a recognized institute, who have registered permanently with Medical Council of India or any other State Medical Councils, are eligible for this course.
