About Oral and maxillofacial surgery.

Oral and maxillofacial surgery is surgery to treat many diseases, injuries and defects in the head, neck, face, jaws and the hard and soft tissues of the oral (mouth) and maxillofacial (jaws and face) region.

It involves, but is not limited to: wisdom teeth removal, apicoectomy, TMJ disorder, facial trauma, jaw surgery, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, dental implants, bone grafts, Cancer patients etc.

The treatment modalities encompass procedures performed under local and general anaesthesia in the dental clinic or in the operation theatre’s. Oral surgery also deals with surgically correcting the abnormality in jaw sizes in a process that involves the orthodontist to work actively with the surgeon in producing the desired results.

An oral surgeon is also well versed with bone augmentation procedures to increase the volume and density of bone as is required in cases of Sinus lift procedures, bone defects, decreased density of bone etc.

Eligibility:

The maximum qualification for this course is Bachelor of Dental Surgery(B.D.S) or an equivqlent qualification recognized by the Dental Council of India. Candidate not possessing a recognized Dental qualification for the above purpose should secure the prior approval of his qualifications by the Dental Council of India before he/she can be admitted to the M.D.S course of any University in India
